Can someone give me some info on the Acura MDx and RDx?

Right now I have a Honda CR-V and it eats gas up(hate that)..I do travel alot and would like a decent car to travel in, would the Acura MDx or RDx be a good car?|||Does it needs to be a SUV? Consider other types of vehicles too. If you do not need the 4x4 capabilities or not need to drive off road. There is no reason to have some like that. You might enjoy better a much nimble vehicle with a better fuel efficiency.





If your major concern is fuel efficiency. By personal experience, I drive a full size sedan, is comfy, handles great and I get at worst 27 MPG at 77 MPH as best 32 MPG so is not bad to fill the tank with gas 16 GL and drive 450 miles before I have to fill up. Plus it has tons of room. I drove it to Copper Mountain in Colorado with 2 sets of Skis, all the gear, suitcases and all fit inside the car. The funny thing, I saw 2 SUVs on the ditch but no other cars!





Not only that, to insure is cheaper and I paid brand new about $21,000 back on 03. 84,000 miles later still runs strong.





If that is not what you are looking for, is hard to find a SUV here in the USA that will sip gas. If there is one, it will be gutless as heck.

If gas is the most important thing to you stick to your Honda. If you are willing to sacrifice gas mileage for comfort and luxury then go to Acura.

Also the consumer reviews on Edmunds.com are helpful as well.|||acura mdx is a lot more powerful. it has a 300hp 3.7 liter engine and can haul 5,000 pounds. it comes with an automatic trunk that will open with the button the key. the inside is very luxurious. it has seven seats an optional DVD player. you can connect your wii, PlayStation, or x-box to it and play on the screen in the back THIS CAR WOULD BE GOOD IF YOU ARE TAKING MORE THAN ONE PERSON WITH YOU ON YOUR LONG TRIPS. and it is also a gas eater








RDX is a little less powerful but has a turbo charged engine this car does NOT eat as much gas . this car has only 5 seats. if you want to tow anything wit this car i HIGHLY RECOMMEND YOU DONT BECAUSE IT HAS A LIMIT OF 1,200 POUNDS TOWING CAPABILITY.








i recommend the rdx eats less gas and on the other hand if you are taking more than one person you might want the mdx|||Honda (who is/owns Acura) makes four SUV type vehicles:





-CRV (4 cyl, normally aspirated)


-Pilot (3.5L V6, normally aspirated)


- RDX (4 cyl, turbocharged)


- MDX 3.7L V6, normally aspirated)





Of the four, the CRV should provide the best fuel economy.





My daughter drives a 2000 CRV EX, and it gets ~ 20 mpg driving mixed surface/freeways.





Not much one can tell you except to keep your car tuned up, and keep your tires properly infated (under-inflated tires rob fuel economy).





There are some performance mods that might add a little fuel economy, but not much to talk about: iridium spark plugs, underdrive pulleys, and cold air induction/exhaust mods. However, underdrive pulleys (which reduce engine load of the belt driven accessories), and intake/exhause mods each have downsides...the latter making your car noiser.|||They are good vehicles but will take more gas, and you WILL be using premium, I can assure you.





But if you don't mind a few cents extra on the dollar and more performance, its not a bad decision.|||The RDX is the luxury version of the Honda CR-V.


The MDX is the luxury version of the Honda Pilot.


The CR-V is an SUV. That is why it gets bad gas mileage. It is the the most fuel efficient gas SUV. There are hybrid SUV's that get better gas mileage by 1-3mpg.|||Your CR-V will get better gas mileage than the MDX or RDX. Depending on the year of your CR-V (I'm assuming a 2002 to 2006 CR-V), some got worse gas mileage than others. The years I used above did not get very good gas mileage. They are rated pretty well, but in real life they did not fare well. They were rated at 23 city and 29 highway, but they didn't do this well. Starting with the 2008 model year, there is a new method of testing for gas mileage. Look up the current 2008 cars and you will see what the true gas mileage will be. The new CR-V is rated at 20 city and 26 highway. You should also check if your car is an AWD or FWD, it will make a small difference in gas mileage.

Greg|||If you don't like the CR-V you won't like the new RDX. It is based on the exact same platform as the CR-V. The MDX is bigger and has a bigger engine, and fuel economy likely will not be as good either.





I am not really sure why you think the CR-V eats up gas...especially on the highway. All honda products, including Acura get fairly decent mileage.

RDX 17 city 22 freeway


MDX 15 city 20 freeway





these are just suggested MPG, but your CR-V is already better than both. The MDX is much larger and comparable to the Hondy Pilot in terms of size.
